La Carnival from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at Gallery 44, MacCurtain Street, Cork Marrying the words Ceramic, Art and Wit with one artist would seem impossible until you see Charlie Mahon’s work. Having once been described by a magazine as…..“Wild, witty and decidedly off-beat would normally be the words associated with the work of Charlie Mahon, much lauded ceramic artist…….” . While this remains to be true, Charlie has turned to painting to help demonstrate where his ideas come from. True to form, using oil pastels, they are wild, witty and fun, showing us loads of exhilarating vivid colour and form. These paintings show where he develops his ideas and what he envisages for his ceramic works. These works encompass colour and imagination to let them stand out from the norm. The strong use of colour hits you hard as it does with the strength of his ceramic sculptures. These works cry out to be explored and touched, a journey that he invites you to enjoy at his exhibition on 16th October 2008 at Gallery 44, McCurtain Street, Cork from 4.30 to 7.30 pm. The ceramic sculptures are as strong as ever with the new introduction of matt colour / glazing and more delicate colouring. These ceramic sculptures are in the forms of Urns, Three Dimensional Wall Hangings, Framed Ceramic Paintings, all using earth stone clay. So make a date and come along and enjoy!! Charlie enjoyed great success at his recent exhibition at the Judy Greene Gallery, Kirwins Lane, Galway, July 10th also he was invited to join the Hallward Gallery for their Ceramic Exhibition in Dublin.
